Welcome Back!
Following last year’s successful event, Ivymount Outreach will participate in the American Odyssey Relay Race for a second time on April 29-30th 2016. Congratulations to last year’s team, Cirque du Sore Legs, not only for surviving the 200 miles from Gettysburg to Washington DC, but also for winning the “Most Spirited Team” Award!
Last year’s race was extremely successful. Ivymount Outreach surpassed its fundraising goal and was able to reduce the cost of 1:1 support for families by half. Thank you to the generous donors and volunteers who made the inaugural Outreach Odyssey Relay so great!
This year, Ivymount Outreach hopes to raise enough money to do away with the fee for additional supports completely, which would provide direct financial relief to Outreach’s most impacted families. The excitement from Ivymount teachers and staff to run again for Outreach families was overwhelming and they are committed to making 2016’s race better than ever!
The Race:
This 200 mile relay race will take the team through small towns in Pennsylvania and Maryland, past historic sites, and along the C&O Canal, with a final destination in our Nation's Capital. They will run through all weather, day and night, until they cross the finish line. Joining them will be 10 Ivymount staff to offer logistical and moral support, and many more supporters working behind the scenes at Ivymount and throughout our community.
The Goal? To raise funds for Ivymount Outreach Programs.
Ivymount Outreach provides services, programs and therapies to children and young adults with special needs throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area. Established by Ivymount School in 2004 to bring their model curriculum and exceptional resources to the greater community, Ivymount Outreach services are implemented by highly-trained Ivymount professionals and therapists. Evidence-based social skills programs, including the popular Saturday program Unstuck and On Target, and other weekend and after-school recreational and therapeutic camps and classes have opened Ivymount’s doors to thousands of area families. In addition, Ivymount Outreach provides professional development to schools and educators to enhance effectiveness in implementation of strategies and supports for all students with disabilities.
However, the programs need funding to continue to develop and expand, and to reach more students and families that are in need of their services.
And that's why we need you! Please join us by donating to the Ivymount Outreach Odyssey Relay.
There are a few ways to support the race:
1. Become a sponsor or ask your employer to sponsor the team
2. Make a donation or donate for each mile of the race
3. Create your own fundraising page and ask your friends and family to join the cause.
Whether you are an Ivymount Outreach family, a friend of a student, or a friend of a staff member, your support on any level makes a difference!
Thank you.
Why I Run!
"I love working for Outreach because it allows me to work closely with the families to target skills that are central to the student's home life in their natural environments. I support this race because it is our way of thanking the families for sharing their wonderfully amazing students with us and making us better people in the process."
